About this place
Carrying the branch lineage of an Asakusa confectionery institution, Funawa provides a relaxed setting in Keisei-Tateishi to enjoy its signature imo-yokan. Made from sweet potatoes, the block of steamed yokan combines a natural root sweetness with a faint trace of salt, giving it a smooth, honest texture that pairs naturally alongside the glossy spheres of anko-dama. Ordering the signature Funawa Set brings freshly whisked ceremonial matcha to the table, its brisk astringency cutting cleanly through the gentle sweetness of the bean paste.
A distinctive draw here is the Otona Set, or adult set, pairing sweet potato yokan and anko-dama with a chilled matcha highball. Tucking into traditional wagashi over a cool green tea cocktail makes a welcome pause during a stroll or an evening hopping between neighborhood bars, pleasing both sweet tooths and drinkers alike. The beverage roster also features Baisu sour and bottled beer, lending the teahouse an easygoing, hybrid character.
The broader dessert lineup is expansive, spanning shiratama cream anmitsu with bouncy rice-flour dumplings and agar jelly, assorted parfaits, and shaved ice in the warmer months. Savory options are just as thorough, including Hayashi rice, ketchup-tossed Napolitan spaghetti, wide kishimen noodles, and oden stew for those after a full lunch. Boxes of imo-yokan and anko-dama are available to take away, making a classic souvenir to take home.
